Favouritism
Yep, Linden Lab has taken it to the next level… What happened?
Katt Linden, you know the communication expert from Linden Lab who took the blog away from the main website and put it into forums… maybe she had something to do with the disappearance of one of the greatest Lindens who really made a difference on the website: Torley Linden.. He had a weekly video tutorial you could watch, he explained things in there like how you can create clothes etc. VERY useful and great to watch! But gone….
Ever since M Linden took over Second Life hasn’t been the same. I feel decisions are not made by people who really love the virtual world and have been involved like Philip Linden was/is.
I know an organisation has to grow and different management styles are needed, but you always have to have to ask yourself where you come from, what is your core business… and do not forget who are the ones that your organisation needs: the customers! The peeps who pay tier, who buy sims, who invest in Second Life, without them, no LindenLab, no Second Life. I love Second Life, if i could live there i would. It’s only because of that, i am still here. I do feel Linden Lab is taking a turn i do not like.
From the forum:
“A new Mainland sailing area will soon appear off the coast of Nautilus in a joint community project between Linden Lab and the estate owners of the United Sailing Sims (USS) group.
For those that don’t know, the USS is made up of 9 private estates with 130+ regions between them, themed around sailing, yacht racing and similar sports.
Blake Sea, named after the legendary sailor Sir Peter Blake, will be to the east of the Nautilus City landmass and will cover over 40 regions in size, and almost all of them will be Homesteads. Around the eastern edge of Blake Sea will be the estates of the USS.” Read all about it here
USS is a business with rentals and shops. Is it different from other businesses? No… Then why does it get a special treatment? How about all those Open Space owners who abandoned or sold their sailing areas, lost so much money.. how about all those estates out there who could also benefit from Linden water and Linden Labs effort to create Sailing and other water activities, games and fun things to discover? If this doesn’t show conflict of interest and favoritism, then tell me what does?
It’s pretty easy: Linden Lab benefits one business more then others and that, to me, feels wrong. Had M Linden post an article about how EVERY organisation could work with Linden Lab in order to create a better Second Life, what the rules would be and how to apply, it could have been different. On the other hand maybe Linden Lab just should have staid out of it, is this part of their core business? I don’t think so.
So combined with the Openspace fiasco, this will only further destroy confidence in Linden Lab.
